On Wednesday 18th November 2020, The Scottish Green Party tabled a motion in Scottish Parliament to declare a nature emergency and back ambitious legislation that would aim to halt catastrophic declines in nature. Scottish Parliament failed to declare a nature emergency. The text for this work is taken from the Scottish Green Party petition asking public support for the need to declare a nature emergency.

the surface of the night is for open instrumentation, originally composed for KLANGFORUM by Scottish-Filipino composer Kevin Leomo. The work explores "very quiet and fragile sounds on the edge of breaking... at such quiet volumes that the sounds may fail to speak, exploring the liminality between sound and silence." (Leomo) This version for voice and double bass was premiered at the 2021 Sound Scotland soundfestival in Aberdeen.
